Episode 3: How to Write an Online Bio for Your Website and Social Media- Show Notes
Welcome to the Ingrain Social Media show! We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our new podcast hosted by owner, Mandy Davis.
What’s New In Social Media This Week?
According to Stat Counter, for the first time ever, mobile and tablet internet use has surpassed desktop use speaking to the monumental shift in how consumers are using the internet. This also highlights the necessity of having a mobile friendly, responsive website.
How to Write an Online Bio
Example of a poor bio: I’m a wife, mommy and crafter who loves the beach and hiking.
Although you might get a tidbit of information about me from that, you have no idea why I’m qualified to talk about my topic of expertise, or capable of doing my job.
A great bio makes people feel like they know you a little bit more.
5 easy steps to write a good bio-
Your bio for you blog will vary slightly from your bio for social sites where you don’t have as much space to tell people how awesome you are. With this in mind, make sure you make the first paragraph the most impactful and use that for your social media profile pages.
1.Write out all of your accomplishments, positions held, goals, and hobbies. Are you a writer, but you love to cook? Write it down!
2. If you have a cause you’re passionate about, or spend your days helping children in 4H, make sure to put that down as well.
3. It can be difficult to be overly flattering of you’re accomplishments, goals, or ideas. But, you wouldn’t write about someone you really admire in a blah way. You’d really flatter them. Think about yourself as if you were writing about that person, and tell us what makes YOU great!
4.Start writing it down as if you’re telling a story. Start with your accomplishments, background and relevant information that establishes you as an expert. Include any interesting, fun facts about yourself or goals you may have going forward.
5.Pair your newly written bio with a photo that is flattering and recognizable. You don’t need a bland PR photo, but it should be clear and appropriate. If you are using your bio for professional purposes, your photo should represent you in your best light.
